It is the year 3005 of the Third Age. Boffo has an easy job, being a Bounder, sworn to protect the borders of the Shire. He lives in Greenfields, once a famous battlefield, but now a forlorn little village on the extreme north end of the North Farthing, where hardly anyone goes. His work consists of hikes along the Bounds (which he calls "patrols") and occasionally looking for stray livestock. Once, he actually killed a wolf and hung the skin (of which he is immensely proud) on the wall of his home.

GOAL & MOTIVE

Boffo Hardbottle seeks to maintain the safety of the Shire borders and protect the local community from threats. Pursuing a stray cow, north of the Shire Bounds, he finds it near a stream, crudely butchered, with bones scattered around. There are also many tracks, which he can easily identify by the hobnailed boots: Orcs! This is a much bigger problem than he is used to dealing with. Should he follow the tracks or raise the alarm? He will have to act fast!

THE WORLD

Boffo lives in Greenfields, in the North Farthing of the Shire in Middle Earth. The village boasts a mathom house with relics of the battle. The local pub is called the Goblin's Head. The nearest villages are Long Cleeve, to the southwest, and Oakbarton, directly south. Further south lies Needlehole, on the Great East Road, on which one eventually comes to Hobbiton, on the eastern edge of the West Farthing. Going east along the road, one passes through Bywater, Frogmorton, and Whitfurrows, before crossing the Bridge of Stonebows and arriving in Buckland. Beyond that lies Bree, which is as far as any hobbit cares to go.

HISTORY & EVENTS

Greenfields was the site of the 2747 Battle of Greenfields, when the Shire was invaded by orcs from Mount Gram. It is famous for the story of Bandobras Took, known as the Bullroarer, who led the charge, knocking "Golfimbul's head clean off", sending it sailing "a hundred yards through the air" and "down a rabbit-hole", thus inventing the game of golf. Since then, not much has happened in Greenfields, a village of little note.
