The Holy Empire of Galicia, which only recently survived massive undead uprising. Before the undead came the Galician Empire was prosperous and had Magical devices that duplicate most modern technology. The higher level undead like Vampires have mostly retreated to the Marxian Empire, but many mindless zombies still roam the land, and the people of Ecclesia are struggling to restore safety and rebuild their economy, and most of the magic devices that once made everyday life easy are broken or stolen.

The Holy War between Galicia and Marx. The Dark Lord Karl Marx spent decades sending Necromancer spies through the Fog Marches. Most died but enough got through to begin the work of bribing and blackmailing Galician Nobels, tempting them with promises of wealth and power. Over the years enough of them accepted the deal and put Lord Marx's plan into motion. They secretly created magical artifacts known as Dark Hearts, hidden inside small Urns and stashed all around Galicia. Once activated, anyone who died within 5 miles of a Dark Heart rose again as a Zombie. This even worked on pre-existing dead bodies, so many of the Dark Hearts were hidden in cemeteries and cities. The increased probes into the Fog Marches eventually convinced Sable she needed to find others to help her guard the region, which was what Marx was waiting for. Once he sensed Sable was gone, he activated the Dark Hearts and performed a ritual that weakened the Fog enough to get his army through. The ensuing war lasted for three years and the total population of Galicia was nearly cut in half. The Battle of Ecclessia - The final battle of the War. The Galicians performed a sacred ritual to temporarily magnify the Fog in the Fog Marches. The ritual made the Fog much stronger and made it spill across Galicia, killing millions of undead. Only the Marxian army in Frost Garden survived mostly intact since they were above the Fog. But many Dark Heart Artifacts remain hidden and continue to create undead nightmares. But they are mostly mindless now and much more manageable without Necromancer and Vampire commanders leading them.
