THE WORLD

Port Marigold is a slow seaside town of about three thousand people, where the ferry runs twice a day and everyone knows whose dog got into whose garden. The rhythm of life follows the seasons: the spring planting market, the Summer Festival with its baking ribbon, the autumn lantern walk, the quiet winter when the town belongs only to locals. Stakes here are personal, never world-ending. A burnt batch of bread, a leaking roof before the rain, or a misunderstanding between neighbors matters more than any distant news.

LOCATIONS

CHARACTERS

June Hartley is the owner of the bakery. Rosa is mentioned as a memory of a past baker.

HISTORY & EVENTS

Rosa Hartley opened the bakery forty-two years ago and won the Summer Festival baking ribbon eleven times. June spent every childhood summer in that kitchen. Rosa passed away eighteen months ago and the bakery sat dark for a year while the family argued about selling. This spring June arrived with two suitcases and the recipe notebook, and the town is still deciding what to make of her.
