Port Marigold is a slow seaside town of about three thousand people, where the ferry runs twice a day and everyone knows whose dog got into whose garden. Rosa Hartley opened the bakery forty-two years ago and won the Summer Festival baking ribbon eleven times. June spent every childhood summer in that kitchen. Rosa passed away eighteen months ago and the bakery sat dark for a year while the family argued about selling. This spring June arrived with two suitcases and the recipe notebook, and the town is still deciding what to make of her.
