Adventure of Atropharan 1

Cold stone presses beneath Atropharan’s tattered robes as awareness returns. Black candles gutter around an ancient binding circle, their smoke crawling low across cracked sigils.

Across the circle, a young adult woman with ash-brown hair and a narrow, ink-stained face leans over the rite. Her dark green novice’s robes hang loosely from a slight frame, and a silver charm trembles at her throat.

The final words shudder through the crypt. Pale blue-white fire kindles in Atropharan’s empty sockets while the sigils fracture, shedding sparks across the floor.

The novice recoils, then snatches for the final length of enchanted iron. Its links drag from a stone coffer toward the circle’s broken edge.

Atropharan raises a clawed hand and hooks his will into the trembling bond. The broken circle answers with a cold pull, but the enchanted iron remains beyond his reach.

The soul-binding chain jerks across the stones toward the novice’s grasp. Atropharan’s necrotic essence strains against the severed sigils, finding no solid link to seize.

His attempt fails to tear her soul free. Instead, the weakened bond snaps inward, scattering blue sparks and dragging the remaining chain around the novice’s ankles.

The stone coffer slams shut as the chain’s loose end vanishes beneath its lid. The novice stumbles outside the fractured circle, separated from the iron and the binding.
