By late afternoon, Minato reaches the remote village as a cart groans beside the square. A broad-shouldered middle-aged badger man, with a white-striped muzzle and heavy brows above small dark eyes, in a dark haori supervises chests and lacquered boxes taken from nearby homes, while a lean young fox woman, her russet fur, narrow amber-eyed face, and faded brown kimono marked by a red sash, watches the lanes with one hand on her short sword.
Villagers huddle beneath the shrine gate, guarded by scattered raiders. Several lesser bandits drag out the final bundles, shouting whenever a resident moves too quickly; the square smells of dust, sweat, and frightened livestock.

Genzaburo
Load the last chests. We leave before sunset, and anyone who reaches for a weapon loses more than their household goods.

Koharu
You heard him. Keep your doors open and your hands where we can see them.
A frightened elderly villager, a gray-muzzled tanuki woman in a faded brown kimono with a patched shawl, stoops beside an overturned grain basket, while a young bandit kicks it aside and points his blade toward the homes. No one in the square dares answer.

Genzaburo
Koharu, check the western lane. If anyone has hidden a box, bring them here before we march.
The fox woman turns toward the western lane, and the raiders begin tightening the load. From the road, Minato has a clear view of the square, the guarded villagers, and the bandits' final preparations.

Stop the bandits from carrying away the village's treasures
“I yell at the bandit leader "Hey! Leave these people be!"”

Minato usagi
Hey! Leave these people be!
Minato’s voice cracks across the square, sharp enough to stop the loading. Hands freeze over the chests, and every frightened face turns toward the road.

Genzaburo
Enough. No one touches the villagers.
The broad-shouldered badger lowers his hand from the nearest chest and faces Minato fully. Around him, the raiders ease their blades and stop threatening the homes.

Koharu
But the western lane has not been checked.

Genzaburo
Leave it. We take what is already loaded and go.
Koharu’s amber eyes linger on Minato, then she lowers her short sword. Beneath the shrine gate, the villagers remain silent, but shoulders loosen as the raiders turn back to the cart.
“I unsheathe my katana "you're not getting with all those stolen goods." I say, challenging the two leading bandits”
SUCCESS (Great Melee Weapons, rolled +1)
Minato draws his masterfully crafted steel katana. The blade catches the lowering sun as he plants himself between the cart and the road, barring the raiders’ departure.

You’re not getting away with all those stolen goods.
The cart’s draft animals shift nervously, but no raider reaches for the reins. Villagers stare from beneath the shrine gate while the drawn sword holds the square’s attention.

Genzaburo
You have nerve, ronin. Lower that blade, and we may yet leave without bloodshed.

Koharu
Genzaburo, the road is blocked. We cannot haul the cart past him while he stands there.
Genzaburo’s heavy jaw tightens. At last he signals the raiders to release the cart handles and step back, abandoning the loaded chests as the villagers begin to emerge.
