Adventure of Gabby 1

Gabby reaches the half-repaired bridge as Daniella, a broad-shouldered adult dragonfolk woman in weathered plate, with slate-gray scales, a blunt snout, amber eyes, and a long scar across one cheek, drives bandits toward its damaged center. Her old knight’s cloak snaps in the wind.

The strategy is clear: fewer enemies can surround Daniella on the narrow span. Beneath her boots, cracked supports groan and shed chips into the churning water.

At the far end, a lean bandit captain breaks from the struggle and reaches the repair platform. One hand closes around the great wooden winch.

Another support cracks with a sharp report. Daniella braces against the press of blades near the center, while the captain hauls the winch toward collapse.

Gabby snatches a loose length of timber from the repair platform without breaking stride. She twists, plants one foot, and throws it hard at the bandit captain’s back.

The timber strikes the winch handle and the bandit captain’s wrist together. His grip breaks, and the great wheel spins free with a shriek of rope and wood.

The released rope lashes across the platform, sweeping the bandit captain’s feet out from under him. He crashes against the railing, while the winch locks safely against its stop.

With the bridge no longer being cut loose, Daniella gains the opening she needs. She drives the nearest bandit, a young adult man with a lean build, close-cropped black hair, a square face, and a rust-red tunic over dark trousers, back and turns toward the bandit captain.

The bandit captain scrambles upright, but his hand is empty and the winch stands beyond his reach. The damaged crossing remains strained, yet its collapse is no longer immediate.

Gabby’s Princess Dagger shifts in her grip, its blade narrowing for a precise strike. She darts across the platform as Daniella closes from the bridge.

Together they corner the bandit captain against the railing. Daniella’s sword forces his guard wide, and Gabby slips beneath it, driving the dagger into his side.

The bandit captain’s knees buckle. He drops his weapon and collapses hard onto the planks, alive but unable to continue the fight. The dagger tears Gabby’s sleeve and leaves a shallow cut along her forearm as he twists.

A fresh groan rolls through the span. Daniella plants one armored boot against the bandit captain’s fallen weapon while the winch rope shudders and the platform tilts toward the churning water.

Gabby opens the Grimoire against the tilting platform. Arcane script crawls across the pages as she traces a binding sigil, and pale blue light pours into the bridge supports.

For one breath, the sagging span steadies. Then the magic catches unevenly, wrenching through the old repairs and forcing the nearest support higher while another splinters loose.

The bridge lurches toward the water, but the failed spell exposes a line of rusted anchor pins beneath the platform. They form a narrower, stronger path for the magic.

Daniella seizes the fallen bandit captain by his collar and drags him clear of the railing, then drives her sword through the winch rope beside its locking cleat.

The cut rope falls slack, relieving the worst strain. The crossing still hangs crooked above the torrent, but the exposed iron anchors offer Gabby a precise, dangerous focus for her next working.

Gabby narrows the Grimoire’s sigil onto the exposed iron anchors. Pale blue magic threads through rust, then spreads from pin to pin beneath the crooked bridge.

The anchors flare as the spell settles. A translucent lattice folds over the damaged planks, covering the crossing in a firm, glowing shell while the torrent churns below.

Daniella hauls the unconscious bandit captain over one shoulder and retreats across the reinforced span. Each step rings against the magical covering, but the bridge remains steady.

Gabby follows, keeping one hand raised as the binding drinks the anchors’ strength. Behind her, loose boards collapse into the water without taking the iron lattice with them.
