Legend arrives inside the Republic hospital as red security shutters slam over the plague ward. White corridors flicker beneath surveillance lenses while Tess searches a supply cabinet for medicine for Eden.

Tess
The antivirals are here somewhere. Keep moving, Legend.
Tess, a slim teenage girl with cropped dark hair and a patched gray jacket—with warm brown skin, a narrow face marked by a small scar, and worn black cargo pants tucked into boots—, lifts a sealed case just as armored guards flood the intersection.
Metias Iparis, a lean young man with olive skin, close-cropped black hair, and a sharp jaw steps through them in a Republic captain's uniform, young and rigid beneath the corridor lights. His sidearm stays trained on Legend.

Metias Iparis
Legend. Drop the weapon and step away from the ward.
Metias taps his comm. An alarm detonates through the hospital, and ceiling drones sweep blue targeting beams across the sealed doors. The nearest guard moves first.

Legend
The plague ward is sealed, and every camera is watching.
Beyond the barricade, Eden's medicine waits in Tess's hands. The murdered ally's memory sharpens the chase, while the Republic prepares to call its first fallen guard proof of Legend's guilt.

Secure the plague medicine
“"No..."”
SUCCESS (Fair Willpower, rolled +1)

Legend
No.
Legend keeps his weapon raised and holds the ward entrance, refusing Metias's order. A targeting beam locks across his chest as the nearest guard lunges into range.
The guard's shock baton clips Legend's forearm. Pain flashes through him, but his footing holds and the barricade remains between the Republic squad and Tess.

Metias Iparis
You are making this worse. Put it down before the drones fire.

Tess
Legend, I have the antivirals. We need a way out, now.
The sealed medicine case stays in Tess's grip. Blue beams multiply across the corridor, and the alarm shifts to a harsher pursuit tone as every camera marks Legend hostile.

Legend
My arm is bruised, but the weapon stays up.
“"No..."”

Legend
No...
Legend keeps the weapon trained down the corridor despite the bruising in his forearm. The targeting beam remains fixed across his chest, but no shot follows.

Metias Iparis
Then listen carefully. Nobody fires unless you give them a reason.
Metias raises two fingers toward the drones. Their blue beams steady, hovering over Legend and the barricade while the guards hold position.

Tess
The case is secured. I can move when you say.
Tess keeps the antivirals tucked against her chest and waits beside the ward entrance. The alarm continues, but the corridor settles into a tense, suspended quiet.
“I shoot metais in the shoulder”
FAILURE (Good Firearms, rolled -3)

Legend fires. The round snaps through the corridor, missing Metias Iparis's shoulder and punching into the armored wall beside him, showering the floor with bright metal sparks.
Metias Iparis flinches sideways as the impact fractures a surveillance relay. Half the corridor lenses blink dark, and the targeting beams stutter across the barricade.

Metias Iparis
Contact! Lock the ward down. Nobody crosses that barricade.
The guards, several adult human men and women in dark Republic armor with raised shields, advance behind raised shields while the damaged relay spits static. Drones pivot from Legend's chest toward Tess and the medicine case.

Tess
That bought us seconds, not an exit. The drones are switching targets.
Tess ducks behind the ward frame, clutching Eden's antivirals as the red shutters begin grinding lower. The corridor's clean firing line is gone beneath sparks and moving shields.

Legend
The shot missed Metias, and the ward is closing.
“"COME ON TESS, DROP THE MEDS AND LETS GO!" I grab tess and we run to the window and jump out.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Agility, rolled -1)

Legend
Come on, Tess, drop the meds and let's go!
Tess releases the sealed case. It clatters across the ward threshold as Legend grabs her arm, pulls her from the barricade, and runs for the nearest window.

Tess
The medicine!
They reach the window before the red shutters finish closing. Legend drives his shoulder into the emergency glass, and the pane bursts outward into cold night air.
Legend and Tess jump together, clearing the hospital wall and dropping onto a maintenance awning below. The impact buckles metal and jolts Legend's bruised forearm.

Tess
You left Eden's only chance back there.
Behind them, drones flood the broken window with blue light, broadcasting their escape across the district. The awning groans, but it holds as they scramble into the shadowed service alley.
