The Ember Recognizes Him

Cold stone presses beneath Velocity as awareness returns. He lies within a tarnished brass circle, deep in a forgotten laboratory beneath the castle, where dust veils cracked pillars and dead candles.

Blue-white witchfire trembles inside glass vessels along the walls. Their dim glow reveals chained shelves, scattered bones of long-dead experiments, and a sealed iron door without a handle.

The air tastes of ash and old magic.

A faint warmth pulses beneath his quills, answering the runes carved around the circle. Each pulse sends hairline sparks crawling across the blackened floor.

Beyond the chamber, something shifts in the darkness. Stone grinds against stone, then falls silent, leaving only the slow drip of water and the whisper of unseen wards.

At the circle's edge, a marble pedestal bears a sealed crystal coffin no larger than a shield. Inside, a red ember flickers once, as though recognizing him.

Discover the nature of the red ember

“I would instinctly activate one of my abilities. I can sense, I can just do as I reach for the chaos. Energy within me, saying chaos control. As time freezes for a solid minute, as I am unhindered in movement, this would actually happen”

FAILURE (Great Magic, rolled -3)

The Ember Recognizes Him

Velocity reaches inward, seeking the chaos energy beneath his quills. The brass circle answers at once, its runes flaring violet around his motionless form.

The energy is resisting the circle.

For one sharp heartbeat, the chamber freezes. Witchfire hangs motionless, water stops mid-drip, and every dust mote becomes a silver star in unmoving air.

Then the sealed runes clamp down. Time lurches forward with a thunderless shock, and the chaos force rebounds through the circle instead of granting a full minute.

The brass ring splits beneath him. Sparks race into the walls, extinguishing half the blue-white flames while the crystal coffin cracks across its surface.

Inside, the red ember surges brighter and presses against the fracture. The iron door remains shut, but its unseen wards now pulse in a broken, uneven rhythm.

“I would instinctly activate one of my abilities. I can sense, I can just do as I reach for the chaos. Energy within me, saying chaos control. As time freezes for a solid minute, as I am unhindered in movement, this would actually happen it is a natural part of my being an entity. And DNA based biology, for clarification of the skill, it's something I can do. I can at least do it 5 times a day. But each time it gets sorter as right now. I'm trying to figure out what's going on. So that 's why I activated. That's something just natural in depth. For my character to be capable of it's not really magic. So much as it is him being well in his backstory, he story his soul. It's part chios, energy itself, so, this would actually happen”

FAILURE (Good Willpower, rolled +1)

The Ember Recognizes Him

Velocity reaches for the chaos energy threaded through his body. It answers like a familiar current, and violet light floods the broken brass circle.

Time catches. Witchfire, drifting dust, and falling droplets become perfectly still, while Velocity moves freely through the frozen laboratory.

The freeze is shorter than a minute.

The cracked crystal coffin remains motionless beneath his hand, but its red ember beats in uneven flashes. Each pulse reveals a thin sigil beneath the fracture.

The sigil is not part of the binding circle. It forms a narrow trail across the pedestal, then points toward the sealed iron door.

A tremor travels through the chamber. The frozen moment begins collapsing around him, violet radiance peeling away from his quills as the chaos control strains.

Before time fully resumes, the trail brightens and a key-shaped mark appears on the door, offering a precise place where the ember's power may be brought into contact.

“I wouldn't just quit lying down. I was made for a purpose. I wouldn't give any clear reason for and if i'm sentient, I at least desert the right to know as finally, I would sigh in access to power. What's in me fully embracing it? Keep in mind the inhibitor wings in board. I have equipped can be taken off at will. Therefore, other people's safety, not mine. So now I would invoke it once again, this time. It would work. I'm going maximum wheel on this. Along with my innate talent for magic and other things”

SUCCESS (Great Magic, rolled +2)

The Ember Recognizes Him

Velocity rises from the fractured circle instead of remaining prone. The inhibitor wings disengage at his will, unfolding once before falling free beside the brass ring.

He draws deeply upon the chaos energy within him, no longer throttling its flow. Violet radiance erupts through his quills, filling the laboratory from floor to vaulted ceiling.

The power is fully awake.

The force surges at maximum strength. Stone groans, dormant runes blaze gold, and every ward in the chamber bends around Velocity without breaking him.

The ember answers with a brilliant red flare. Its sigil spreads across the pedestal, then pours into the key-shaped mark on the iron door.

The sealed door opens inward beneath the combined power. Beyond it lies a descending stair of black crystal, lit by floating flames that bow toward Velocity as he stands.

Behind him, the laboratory survives the release, though its cracked pillars shed dust and the remaining witchfire burns violet. The chaos energy now moves freely through him, vast and obedient.

“Considering time is canography, now frozen for a solid whole minute. Which me being uninhibited, in my movement and everything, considering how the ability works and considering my character naturally just as a passive Sting for its race in general. If there were any more of him, it's super speed. Just straight up like zoom, zoom, zoom, super speed, as I use these abilities to slow my perception even further. Why everything else is frozen and zoom about? So I don't miss anything concerning how the brain with super speed can process things way faster by storing knowledge for later, using this to scan along the halls. Read the notebooks I can instinctively understand and other things. This would actually be happening, as I would be evacuating being a small little horde of treasure left behind in this abandoned castle's you know, treasure trove, as I would have enough to set me on whatever journey along the way when I would come across my weapons”

FAILURE (Good Perception, rolled -2)

The Ember Recognizes Him

The frozen minute deepens around Velocity. He becomes a violet streak through the black-crystal halls, perception stretching until each dust mote, rune, and suspended droplet stands separately clear.

Doors, alcoves, and abandoned chambers unfold in rapid succession. He reads every exposed notebook by touch and glance, its archaic script resolving instinctively into maps, warnings, and fractured records.

In the treasure vault, he sweeps a small hoard into a satchel: old coins, cut gems, sealed vials, and a silver-bound purse heavy with spellstones.

The search reveals his weapons at last, suspended beyond a narrow arch in a chamber layered with concentric wards. Their familiar shapes rest within arm's reach, yet the warded air refuses passage.

The weapons are here, but the ward is anchored outside the frozen moment.

Velocity circles the chamber faster, testing every angle. Each pass makes the wards brighten, and the castle's frozen architecture begins folding the corridor into repeating turns.

The minute collapses before he can claim them. He returns to the opened stair with the treasure and copied knowledge secured, while the weapons remain sealed behind the looping ward.

“I would sense something which instantly means off here as constraints. Time is still frozen for its all minute. Constraint, the speeds are moving at. I would decide to test something, and I post inwards within myself, who are, you know, phrasing, as I would sense it, as I would sense the disruption within my energy. And solve it on the spot as now. That I've done this in speed. You know, speed force terms. I now crackle back at full capacity. Seemingly the universe which it would be actually the universe me would be back in sync. As finally, I move doing as I said, as keep in mind, I'm slowing my reaction time to a degree to where, when I move by something, even if I moved by it, I can see it at full details. Zooming side to side and stuff like disinact. My character was also born in raids here. So in his spirits that would be offended by him awakening wouldn't be the case considering from what I do remember before being frozen. I was the last beginning of hope”

SUCCESS (Good Willpower, rolled +1)

The disruption reveals itself within Velocity’s energy, a discordant current running against the frozen minute. He turns inward, tracing its pattern instead of forcing it aside.

At speed beyond ordinary thought, he separates the conflicting pulses and folds them back into one rhythm. Violet sparks crackle across his quills as the strain exacts a sharp burn through his muscles.

Velocity the hedgehog

The universe is moving with me again.

Synchronization returns. The halls stop resisting his presence, and the frozen droplets, runes, and dust settle into a single coherent stillness around him.

Velocity deliberately slows his reactions, then moves. He crosses the crystal stair in measured bursts, turning sharply from side to side while every surface remains fully detailed.

The controlled motion carries him through the corridor without losing clarity. The sealed weapon chamber, repeating arches, and bowed flames all remain exactly where his restored perception places them.

Behind him, a faint violet crackle lingers in the stone, marking the cost of his correction while the frozen minute continues to hold.
