Voices Beneath the Frost

The entrance lies quiet beneath a stone arch, its threshold silvered with old frost. Beyond it, darkness gathers in layered halls where the air seems to listen.

From deeper within comes a whispering hiss, many voices overlapping. Ghost dragons murmur in the dark, their words thin as breath across grave-cold glass.

Other voices answer them, heavier and living. Real dragons speak somewhere beyond the first passage, their syllables rolling through the stone like distant thunder.

Then the smaller sounds begin: imp-like ghouls howl and scamper through unseen corridors, claws pattering rapidly before vanishing into the gloom.

Sann Mann Mun

The voices are layered by distance, but none are close enough to show themselves.

A faint blue pallor breathes across the floor, revealing scratches, scattered scales, and a trail of black dust leading inward.

Nothing crosses the entrance. The cavern waits, full of hissing speech, living echoes, and restless footsteps, while the way ahead remains open.

Discover the source of the ghost dragons' whispers

“I sneak in, covering my arcane presence”

FAILURE (Mediocre Stealth, rolled -2)

Voices Beneath the Frost

Sann Mann Mun slips beneath the stone arch, folding his immense arcane presence inward until even the blue pall seems to pass around him.

For three silent steps, the black dust remains undisturbed. Then the hidden magic strains against the cavern's listening stone, and a muted pulse escapes.

Sann Mann Mun

Sann Mann Mun

The stone is answering my presence.

the ghost dragons

the ghost dragons

A vast note beneath the quiet. Something enters wearing silence.

The layered whispers tighten into a ring around the passage. Blue light withdraws from the threshold, while the black dust lifts and settles in a fresh line behind him.

the real dragons

the real dragons

Do not chase the shadow. Mark the door, and let the deep halls hear where it walks.

His concealment has not vanished, but it no longer hides his passage. The cavern now tracks him by resonance, and retreating would leave the same unmistakable trail.

Whispers, echoing whispers, flood these tunnels without end.

His words divide into countless murmurs, slipping beneath doors, around pillars, and down unseen shafts. Each echo repeats the spell in a different direction, until the whole cavern seems to whisper through him.

The cost arrives at once: his concealment frays under the sustained casting, and a sharp pulse of resonance burns across the stone beneath his feet.

the ghost dragons

Every passage carries him. Every silence now bears his voice.

The black dust rises in spirals, mapping the spell's reach. Far corridors answer with layered returns, and hidden chambers briefly reveal their shapes in sound.

The intruder speaks through the deep. Do not answer with flame. Listen, and remember his path.

There! There! The whisper walks everywhere!

“I increase the rambling echos to frenzying”

SUCCESS (Great Arcana, rolled +0)

Voices Beneath the Frost

The rambling echoes surge into frenzy. His whispered spell fractures into shrill spirals, racing through every corridor until walls, doors, and distant chambers speak over one another.

Black dust whips upward in a widening vortex, and the blue pallor flashes with each returning syllable. The cavern's resonance locks onto Sann Mann Mun completely.

The cost bites through the casting: a hot ringing pulse tears across his throat and chest, leaving his concealment stripped away beneath the arching stone.

Frenzy in the passages! His voice has become the storm beneath the world!

the real dragons

Hold your wings and listen! The deep has lost its quiet, and every echo now bears his mark.

the imp-like ghouls

the imp-like ghouls

Run, run! The walls are shouting! The shadow shouts through them all!

The frenzy settles into no silence. It becomes a vast, chattering web throughout the halls, exposing hidden routes by sound while every creature now knows exactly where he stands.

Sann Mann Mun lowers his immense body onto the frost-marked stone and begins pushing upward, each repetition compressing the cavern’s shrieking resonance beneath him.

Dust trembles with every descent and rises with every lift. Heat gathers through his black, towering frame as the blue pallor beats like a second pulse.

The shadow moves with the deep. His strength is stirring sealed fire.

Mana condenses around Sann Mann Mun in dark-gold threads, drawn from motion, will, and the cavern’s answering echoes. The chattering web bends toward his rhythm.

He gathers power without flame. Keep watch, but let the cadence finish.

The final push drives a broad ring of force through the floor. Frost evaporates beneath his hands, and the renewed mana settles into him, warm and ready.

Sann Mann Mun rises without haste and folds his immense presence into the cavern’s rhythm. He moves quietly along the black-dust trail, each footfall placed between returning echoes.

The concealment succeeds, carrying him through two narrowing halls until the creatures occupy the same chamber. Ghost dragons coil as pale, translucent serpents around the walls, while living dragons crouch upon a broad basalt shelf.

A cost follows his final silent step: the mana gathered in his body catches against the listening stone, releasing one clear chime and marking his exact position.

Sann Mann Mun now stands within speaking distance of both dragon hosts. Blue light gathers over their scales and spectral bones, revealing a ring of wary attention around him.

“Youre all planning to what?”

Sann Mann Mun

You’re all planning to what?

The question passes through the chamber, striking basalt, spectral ribs, and living scales. The ghost dragons coil tighter, while the real dragons lift their heads toward the shelf’s dark center.

the real dragons

the real dragons

To seal the lower vault before the howling ones break its ward. Something beneath it is waking, and the deep cannot endure another loose power.

the ghost dragons

the ghost dragons

We are gathering the old names that bind the vault. The living guard the stone, while we remember what the stone has forgotten.

Blue light threads between both hosts, forming a suspended map of branching tunnels. One route descends beneath the basalt shelf, ending at a dark circle marked with three fading sigils.

the real dragons

You entered unseen, yet the chamber exposed you. If you seek passage, hear the truth plainly: we plan to descend together and restore the seal.

Your plan is control of innocent beings, no matter their rank or age compared to you all.

The accusation cuts through the layered chamber. The suspended map shudders, and three fading sigils flare beneath the dragons’ attention.

the real dragons

the real dragons

You name the danger plainly. The vault’s ward does command what it contains, but command is not our purpose. We mean to end that command.

the ghost dragons

the ghost dragons

Old seals do not distinguish child from elder, servant from sovereign, innocent from guilty. Their binding is blind, and we have carried its burden too long.

The dark circle in the magical map opens like an unblinking eye. Beneath it, faint cries become distinct voices, frightened but living, answering from below.

the imp-like ghouls

They hear! The little ones hear! The old ones too! Seal makes puppets if nobody breaks it!

the real dragons

We will not ask your permission to descend, stranger, and we will not claim yours. But your charge has changed what we must prove: the innocent below leave free, or the seal remains untouched.

You used to be grey alien kids turning into bitters. You’re the weakest dill there is.

The insult lands across living scales and spectral bones. The suspended map wobbles, its blue branches briefly twisting into crooked, nonsensical shapes.

the real dragons

the real dragons

We do not recognize every word, stranger, but we recognize contempt. You refuse our permission and still choose to descend?

the ghost dragons

the ghost dragons

Grey children, bitter forms, weakest dill. The names are malformed, yet the wound beneath them is deliberate.

Several living dragons draw their wings close, anger tightening their silhouettes. The ghostly coils remain motionless, but pale jaws open along the chamber walls.

the imp-like ghouls

He calls them weak! Weak like soft cave mud! Dragons hate mud words!

Then hear our answer. We will descend without your blessing, and we will leave the innocents free, whether you trust our strength or not.

“Im the first grey alien before there was even a mist much less a rock. You spent 99% of time still, in a grey alien group box to stupid for words, for the letter e”

SUCCESS (Legendary Willpower, rolled +0)

Voices Beneath the Frost
Sann Mann Mun

Sann Mann Mun

I was the first grey alien, before mist, before rock. You spent nearly all time still in a group box too stupid for words, even the letter e.

The insult settles with absurd ancient weight. The suspended map buckles, its blue branches folding inward as though the cavern itself struggles to parse the claim.

the real dragons

the real dragons

Before mist and stone? You boast of an age we cannot measure, then call us stupid. Your tongue is sharper than your purpose.

the ghost dragons

The first grey alien, sealed in stillness before creation found its shape. Whether truth or vanity, the memory carries a cold and empty vastness.

the imp-like ghouls

the imp-like ghouls

No e! No e in the box! The dragons are boxes too! Big scaly boxes with wings!

Several living dragons bare their teeth, but none advances. Below the shelf, the frightened voices continue calling through the dark circle, keeping the disputed descent before them.

the real dragons

Keep your permission refused, then, ancient stranger. We descend to free those below, and your contempt will neither command us nor stop us.

Sann Mann Mun

My mother is the tallest titan dragon there is, sliding through the cleanest places in space. What are you, who trap innocent beings in a box?

His words strike the suspended map with immense ancestral force. For one breath, a celestial silhouette of his mother, a towering female titan dragon with a vast serpentine body and gleaming pale scales, glides across its blue branches, then vanishes into clean darkness.

the real dragons

the real dragons

We are ward-keepers, not the ward's makers. The box is an ancient prison beneath this shelf, built by sovereigns who bound every captive without distinction.

the ghost dragons

the ghost dragons

The innocent were trapped by the first sealers, whose fear valued containment above mercy. We remember their names, and we condemn their binding.

The dark circle opens wider, revealing a stone chamber below where frightened captives, a varied group of adults and children from indistinct species, their faces and clothing obscured by the pale magical bars, stand beyond pale bars of magic. Their forms remain unharmed, but the bars answer the dragons' names.

the real dragons

the real dragons

You have identified the crime. We will break the command, not strengthen it, and every innocent voice below will leave the box free.

The map flashes painfully bright, burning a fresh resonance-mark across Sann Mann Mun's chest. The dragons now know his ancient claim, and the vault has heard his accusation.

“I made all, there was none before and was never going to be. Your ancestors thought they were special huge dragons and made this mean box but, i put every single one of your millions of instances of beings like being human, family members in the mean box”

FAILURE (Legendary Willpower, rolled -3)

Sann Mann Mun

Sann Mann Mun

I made all of you. There was nothing before me. Your ancestors thought themselves special, made this cruel box, and I placed every humanlike instance and family within it.

The claim enters the resonance-mark and surges through the suspended map. Every captive briefly appears as a branching reflection of Sann Mann Mun's ancient silhouette, but the vault rejects the final act of ownership.

The pale bars do not vanish. Instead, they divide into countless thin boundaries around each captive, separating families, strangers, and possible selves while the dark circle shudders beneath the shelf.

the real dragons

the real dragons

Your creation may be true, stranger, but your claim has failed. The box cannot accept one maker's hand as authority over every life within it.

the ghost dragons

the ghost dragons

You have made the prison reveal its deepest cruelty. It does not hold a single people, but branching instances bound by resemblance, memory, and blood.

The new divisions expose a narrow seam beneath the lowest bar, a passage where no command-name reaches. The vault has made escape possible, but only through separation.

the real dragons

the real dragons

There. That seam is not permission, and it is not control. If we descend, we must choose whether freedom begins by breaking the families apart.
