Adventure of Varn Talross 1

Varn Talross arrives in a stark underground weapons facility, purple void-light glimmering across his obsidian carapace. Melted police restraints steam on the floor.

Containment doors hang open along the corridor. Warning lights pulse red while armed security turrets unfold from the ceiling and track every moving figure.

Several frightened young women huddle behind Mina. Her acid-slicked stance blocks the nearest weapons, but targeting lasers crawl across her and the group.

A mechanical voice echoes through the chamber: hostile entities confirmed. Turrets charge with a rising electrical whine, sealing the exits behind reinforced shutters.

The facility’s defenses pivot toward Varn as well. In the same instant, a frightened girl reaches for Mina’s arm, and the first weapon locks onto the crowded room.

Void-light surges through Varn’s obsidian carapace as the turrets fire. The projectiles bend sharply in midair, dragged into a spiraling black current.

Each shot veers away from the clustered girls and slams into another ceiling turret. Sparks burst across the chamber as the weapons collapse in rapid succession.

The remaining turret swivels toward Varn, but its targeting lattice fractures under the void’s pull. Its weapon discharges harmlessly into a disabled mount.

Silence replaces the electrical whine. A damaged security panel unlocks beside the sealed exit, exposing a blinking facility map and an access route deeper inside.

The frightened girls surge toward Mina as smoke thins. No turret remains trained on them, and the newly revealed route lies open beneath the pulsing red lights.

Varn murmurs the correction as he follows the group, keeping to the rear beneath the pulsing red lights. His purple glow trails across the smoke.

Mina leads the frightened girls through the exposed doorway. Behind them, disabled turrets tick and cool while the facility map flickers with deeper corridors.

Varn remains at the back as the group passes into the next corridor, watching the darkened ceiling mounts and the route ahead.

Varn’s quiet question carries through the corridor. The exposed facility map brightens, projecting a structural overlay: this is a buried weapons-development complex beneath an ordinary industrial district.

The map labels the current sector as Containment and Research. Several red markers show emptied cells, while a green service route appears beneath the main corridor.

A concealed panel slides aside, revealing a narrow access passage lit by steady white strips instead of emergency red. The route bypasses the remaining sealed doors.

Varn steps through the maintenance passage with the rescued girls and Mina, emerging into cool night air behind an ordinary industrial building.

Police lights wash the loading yard in blue and red. Rhia Maple stands near the open gate, focused and steady as she approaches Mina.

Rhia keeps her attention on Mina while the rescued girls gather behind Varn and the other survivors. The facility entrance looms dark beneath the warehouse.

Mina groans but complies, allowing Rhia to secure her without a struggle. The yard settles into a tense, orderly quiet as the others remain free.
