Kurana reaches the medium-sized town beneath pennants and colored lanterns, intending to pass through before nightfall. Music falters around a crystal centerpiece, a waist-high shard of milky violet crystal veined with faint gold, where townsfolk and adventurers crowd the square.

The Whispering Crystal

Kurana.

The crystal’s voice is thin as frost beneath a door. At once, the gathered people turn sharply, searching faces, rooftops, and empty spaces as though a hidden culprit stands among them.

Kurana, bearer of the unclosed shadow.

A masked adventurer steps from the outer ring: a young adult woman in a weather-dark cloak, slender and tall, with a silver half-mask and red braids visible beneath her hood. She raises one gloved hand toward Kurana.

Veyra

Veyra

There. Do not let him leave the square.

The crowd surges without quite advancing, closing lanes and watching Kurana from every side. The crystal dims, yet its whisper lingers in the stones while the masked woman keeps pointing.

Escape the town square

“Kurana quickly begins to run away climbing atop the building where the average person can’t follow as he jumps from building to building to get away to somewhere hidden.”

FAILURE (Good Athletics, rolled +0)

Kurana bolts through the crowd, boots striking the edge of a fountain before he catches a festival awning and hauls himself onto a tiled roof. Shouts rise below.

He crosses the first roof cleanly, then leaps the narrow alley. His landing skids across loose tiles, sending a clatter into the square as several townsfolk point upward.

The next gap is wider. Kurana catches the far gutter with both hands, but the old metal tears free. He drops onto a lower balcony instead of reaching the opposite roof.

The balcony railing buckles beneath him. He rolls through an open shutter into a dark upper room, while below, the crowd gathers around the fallen gutter and loses sight of him.

Dust veils a cramped storage chamber packed with festival crates. A narrow servants’ stair descends behind them, its door marked by a faded violet handprint.

Kurana

Kurana

The stair leads away from the square.

Through the shutter, the masked adventurer climbs onto the roofline and scans the neighboring tiles, but she does not see the room. The stair offers concealment, though the handprint glimmers faintly like the crystal’s veins.

Escape the town square

“Kurana now having escaped takes the opportunity to take a look inside the room and its crates to see if he can find anything useful or interesting while he waits for nightfall so he can leave”

Kurana waits until the roof tiles fall quiet, then searches the storage room by touch and slivers of evening light. Festival cloth, lamp oil, and cracked cups fill the first crates.

Behind a false bottom, his fingers find a waxed leather purse containing twelve silver pieces and a tiny iron key. The purse bears no crest, only a smear of violet wax.

Kurana

Kurana

The key fits nothing in this room.

A second crate holds folded festival banners over a narrow ledger. Its pages list deliveries to the square, but one entry is written in a different hand: crystal chamber, after moonrise.

The phrase gives him no location, yet the final page sketches the violet handprint from the stair door, with three short lines beneath it like a half-finished warning.

Searching every seam and crate costs him the remaining daylight. By the time he finishes, dusk has deepened over the shutters, and the square below is lit by torchfire.

Waxed Leather Purse

“Kurana finishes looking around as he takes the leather pouch and key before leaving out the balcony and carefully descending to the alleyway below, putting his hood on to blend into the night and remain hidden.”

FAILURE (Superb Stealth, rolled -3)

Kurana slips the waxed purse and tiny iron key beneath his cloak, then eases through the balcony opening. He draws his hood up before lowering himself toward the alley.

His boots find the wall’s projecting stones, but one gives way under his weight. It drops into the alley with a sharp clatter, and his descent swings hard against the plaster.

Kurana lands crouched among rain barrels, yet the noise carries upward. On the roofline, the masked adventurer turns toward the balcony and catches the movement beneath his hood.

Veyra

Veyra

You. Stop there.

Her boots strike the tiles as she moves along the roof toward the balcony. The alley remains dark, but the fallen stone has marked Kurana’s hiding place.

Kurana presses into the narrow shadow beneath the balcony, hood hiding his face. Above, the masked adventurer reaches the railing and looks down, searching the barrels and doorways.

The alley offers concealment, but not escape unseen. The balcony stairs are exposed, the street mouth lies beyond them, and the adventurer’s gaze remains fixed below.

Tiny Iron Key

“Under the dark of night luckily Kurana is at his most comfortable as he carefully sneaks away taking one more look at the masked adventurer taking notice of how attractive she is as he turns around and stealthily escapes”

Kurana keeps still beneath the balcony and takes one last look. Torchlight catches the masked adventurer’s silver half-mask, tall slender figure, and bright red braids spilling from her hood.

Veyra

Veyra

Come out, thief. I know you are beneath me.

Her gaze passes over the nearest barrel. Kurana waits through the pause, then shifts only when a gust rattles the awnings above, folding his movement into the sound.

He slips behind the rain barrels, crosses beneath the balcony stairs, and reaches the alley mouth without disturbing a loose stone or scraping his cloak against the wall.

Veyra

Veyra

Damn it. Search the lower street!

By the time her boots descend the exposed stairs, Kurana has vanished into the sleeping town. He threads silent lanes beneath shuttered windows, the stolen purse and iron key secure beneath his cloak.

“Kurana reaches the outskirts of town unnoticed as he leaves and walks out into the wilderness once again thinking about how if his life were better he might’ve had a chance with that beautiful adventurer.”

FAILURE (Superb Stealth, rolled -2)

Kurana follows the last cottages into thorny scrub, keeping to drainage ditches and hedgerows. The town’s torchlight thins behind him, and the wilderness opens beneath a rising moon.

At the outer road, a lone festival-goer, a young adult man with a lean build, a weather-browned narrow face, cropped dark hair, and a patched brown wool coat steps from a shrine alcove carrying a shuttered lantern. His glance catches Kurana’s black cloak before the darkness can hide it.

You there. Hold a moment. The masked woman said to watch for a cloaked thief.

Kurana reaches the first trees, but the near miss closes the road behind him. Beyond the shrine, fresh bootprints lead toward a narrow ravine instead of the open fields.

Kurana

Kurana

If my life were better, perhaps Veyra would have looked at me differently.

The festival-goer lifts his lantern and starts after him, but the ravine’s bramble-choked mouth offers a darker route. Its stones bear faint violet smears, matching the wax on Kurana’s purse.

“Kurana quickly starts into a sprint into the forest as he disappears into the night between the trees he’s still thinking of that adventurer who he learned was named Veyra but he focuses his mind on escaping”

SUCCESS (Superb Agility, rolled +2)

The Crystal Names Kurana

Kurana breaks into a sprint, plunging between the trees. Branches whip past his cloak as he follows the darker ground, placing distance between himself and the shrine.

Kurana

Kurana

Veyra. Keep moving.

The forest receives him. Thorn and pine swallow the moonlight, while his sure footing carries him over roots, stones, and a shallow stream without breaking his stride.

Cloaked thief! Stop!

The shout fades behind the trees. Kurana cuts sharply between two leaning trunks, then descends into a fern-filled hollow where the road, shrine, and lantern light vanish completely.

He slows only beneath thick fir branches, hidden in the wilderness. His breath steadies, the stolen purse and tiny iron key remain secure, and no pursuing footsteps reach the hollow.

“Kurana finally relaxes for a moment as he now calmly walks through the forest at night thinking of Veyra as he does, he thinks of his dream to one day have many beautiful wives as he finds a nice large tree to climb and sleep in.”

SUCCESS (Legendary Agility, rolled +0)

The Crystal Names Kurana

Kurana leaves the hollow at an easy pace, walking beneath black pines and silvered branches. With the danger behind him, his thoughts return to Veyra and the life he hopes to build.

He imagines a future filled with beautiful wives, wealth, and power, a distant dream carried quietly beneath his weathered cloak. The forest gives no answer, only the soft crunch of needles underfoot.

Moonlight finds a broad old oak standing apart from the younger trees. Its lowest limbs are thick, its trunk deeply furrowed, and its crown spreads high enough to hide a man from the ground.

Kurana tests the bark, then climbs with effortless precision. He moves from knot to branch to fork until the forest floor lies safely below, swallowed by shadow and fern.

A broad limb cradles him near the trunk. He settles his cloak beneath his shoulders, keeps the tiny iron key and silver purse close, and listens to the quiet wilderness.

Wind stirs the oak’s leaves overhead. Kurana closes his eyes beneath the sheltering crown, while moonlight drifts across the branches and sleep takes him above the dark forest.

✓ Quest Accepted

Get some much-needed sleep

“Kurana closes his eyes and finally drifts off to sleep, he’s quite tired after not sleeping for a few days”

Kurana lets his eyes close beneath the oak’s sheltering crown. The rough bark presses steadily against his shoulder, and the forest’s quiet breathing surrounds him.

Weariness claims him quickly after the long days without proper rest. His grip slackens against the branch, though the purse and tiny iron key remain secured beneath his cloak.

Sleep deepens through the night. Wind passes over the high leaves, carrying the scent of pine and damp earth while moonlight slowly crosses the old oak’s limbs.

Dreams come without clear shape, broken impressions of violet crystal, red braids, and a voice speaking from beneath stone. None of them pulls him fully awake.

The forest remains undisturbed around him. No footsteps approach, no branch breaks below, and the darkness passes safely while Kurana sleeps high above the ground.

At last, pale dawn filters through the canopy and touches his closed face. His breathing has steadied, and the deep exhaustion weighing on him has finally begun to ease.
