Axl crouches on a mossy limb above the jagged coast, hidden in the green hush of the jungle. Below, the surf hammers the rocks in steady bursts.
Sydney wheels overhead, a white blur against the humid sky, and cries out again, sharp and frantic.
A weathered skiff cuts through the chop toward the hidden cove. It rides low, too low, as if packed with something heavy and secret.
The boat noses closer to the turtle nesting beach, where pale shapes lie buried under the sand beyond the surf line.
A man in a salt-stiff cloak stands at the stern, peering toward shore. His hands are busy at a rope net bulging beneath the gunwale.

The Skiffman
Keep her steady. This cove is the one. Fast, before anyone spots us.

Axl
The net is heavy, and Sydney only sounds this alarm when something is wrong.
The skiff scrapes over a hidden stone, shuddering toward the nesting beach. The Skiffman turns his head, suddenly listening.

The Skiffman
Who's there? Show yourself, now.

Protect the nesting sea turtles
“Axl raises her crossbow and aims. Not at the man but to the rope attached to the dangling net”
SUCCESS (Superb Ranged Combat, rolled +0)

Axl shifts her weight on the branch and brings the crossbow up in one smooth motion. The bowstring sings softly as she settles the shot on the rope above the bulging net.
Her bolt snaps through the rope. The net lurches free with a wet thump and swings hard against the skiff’s side.

The Skiffman
No, no, hold together!
The Skiffman staggers at the stern as the load shifts under the gunwale. The skiff lists toward the surf, and the hidden cargo slaps against the planks.

Sydney
Kree! Turn back! Turn back!
Sydney dives low over the cove, wingbeats whipping the spray. On the beach, pale turtle shapes remain half-buried, undisturbed, but the boat no longer rides steady enough to land cleanly.

The Skiffman
There’s something in the trees. Pull away, now!

Protect the nesting sea turtles
“Axl slips into the foliage of the tree watching and listening to the skiff below”
FAILURE (Good Stealth, rolled -2)

Axl melts deeper into the leaves, but a dry vine snaps under her weight. The branch trembles, and the foliage shivers loud enough to give her perch away.
Below, the Skiffman whips around toward the sound, one hand thrown out to steady himself as the skiff buckles in the surf.

The Skiffman
There! In the trees!

Sydney
Kree, pull back! Now!
Axl freezes in the greenery, hidden enough to watch, not hidden enough to vanish. Through the gap in the branches, she catches the edge of the cargo, long crates bound in salt-dark rope, shifting toward the open beach.
The skiff manhauls on the stern line, but the boat keeps sliding sideways. Spray hammers the hull, and the load threatens to spill if he tries to force a landing.
Then the opening appears, the rope lash on the nearest crate is frayed nearly through. One clean shot or a hard rush down the trunk could still tip the whole unload into failure.
“Axl slips into the foliage of the tree watching and listening to the skiff below”
FAILURE (Good Stealth, rolled -2)

Axl slips deeper into the leaves, but the branch gives her away with a sharp crackle of green.
The skiffman flinches hard and scans the canopy, losing his grip on the stern line for a beat as the boat shudders in the surf.

The Skiffman
Show yourself!
From where she hides, Axl catches a clearer view of the cargo, not one crate, but two, and the front lash on the nearest one is almost gone.
The skiff keeps drifting side-on, too unstable for a clean unload, but close enough that one hard pull could still drag the crates to shore.

Sydney
Kree, he is looking away now!
Axl is still in the leaves, but her perch is no longer fully covered. The hidden beach lies open below, and the fraying rope gives her a choice, now.
“Axl slips into the foliage of the tree watching and listening to the skiff below”
SUCCESS (Good Stealth, rolled +3)
Axl melts into the foliage, and the leaves close around her like a veil. From the skiff, the canopy loses her at once.
She settles silent on the branch, crossbow low, eyes fixed on the cove. Every ripple, every scrape of rope, carries cleanly through the trees.
Below, the skiffman keeps staring at the wrong patch of green, while the boat grinds side-on in the surf. His cargo stays trapped aboard, for now.

Sydney
Kree. Hidden again.
Sydney wheels past the beach, then cuts back over the water, drawing the skiffman’s eye away from Axl’s perch.
Axl catches the inside of the nearest crate as it tilts, marked with fresh salt and a strip of netting tugged loose. It is bait for the shore, not just freight.
The cove quiets into a dangerous pause, with the rope slackening and the beach still untouched. One more move from above, and the load may slip free.
“Axl leaps from the tree to the vessel in attempt to knock the crewman overboard”
FAILURE (Good Athletics, rolled -2)
Axl launches from the branch in one hard arc, claws flashing through the leaves. The gap to the skiff is just a little too wide, and the deck keeps heaving under her.
She clips the gunwale instead of landing clean, jolting the boat sideways. The Skiffman staggers, arms windmilling, and one boot skids to the edge.
He does not go over. He slams a hand onto the crate lash and catches himself, breathing hard. The near-fall leaves the load twisted, but still aboard.

The Skiffman
No, no, no. Not now.
Axl lands in a crouch at the skiff's rim, close enough to see the front crate split its binding and gape open a finger's width. Inside, pale straw packing and a carved wooden marker show a hidden route, or a hidden buyer.
The boat groans off balance, turned broadside to the surf. If the crewman wants to save his cargo, he has to choose between the shore and the sea right now.
“Axl leaps from the tree to the vessel in attempt to knock the crewman overboard”
FAILURE (Legendary Agility, rolled -4)
Axl commits to the leap, claws out, shoulders forward. The skiff pitches under her before she can drive the crewman back.
Her impact jars the deck, but the bad angle steals the shove. The Skiffman stumbles a step, then catches the crate lash instead of the sea.

The Skiffman
No, wait, hold, hold!
The open crate slaps against the rail, straw spilling. The carved marker skids into view, half-turned toward the surf.

Axl
The binding gives, but not enough.
The skiff slews broadside again, grinding low in the waves. The crewman drops to one knee, keeping both hands on the cargo instead of on Axl.

The Skiffman
If that crate goes, I go with it!
Axl hangs at the rim with the tide hammering the hull, the escape lane gone and the cargo still aboard. The next move is no longer a shove, but a choice between the boat and the surf.
“Axl leaps from the tree to the vessel in attempt to knock the crewman overboard”
SUCCESS (Good Athletics, rolled +2)
Axl releases the tree and sails down in a tight arc, feet first, claws ready. The crewman jerks up too late as she slams into him and drives him off balance.
He spills sideways across the slick deck, one hand flailing for the rail. The crate snaps free of his grip and thuds against the gunwale.

The Skiffman
No, no, keep it in the boat!
The skiff shudders from the impact, but the man is pinned between Axl and the cargo, too panicked to stand. Spray washes over the splintered lid.
The carved marker tips over the rail and vanishes into the surf, lost in the foam below.
Sydney wheels overhead with a sharp cry as the boat lurches away from the beach, unloading stopped for now. The crewman glares at Axl, breathing hard, trapped on the listing skiff.
