The illegal underground ring shudders with distant cheers. Behind the dressing-room door, the championship belt lies across Syn’s gear, still warm from the match.
The arena’s stink clings to the air, sweat, dust, and hot metal. Beyond the walls, bettors roar as if the fight never ended.

Aspen
Syn, don’t let him use me to control you.
Aspen stands near the cracked mirror, one of Victor’s hands locked around her upper arm. Her white hair is disordered, and anger burns through her fear.
Victor fills the doorway, short and broad beneath an expensive coat. His gold tooth flashes as his gaze moves from the belt to Syn.

Victor
You ruined my spectacle, champion. The crowd wanted a longer lesson, and you denied them their pleasure.
His grip tightens on Aspen’s arm. He does not look at her. He watches Syn as though the contract he forced on her still hangs between them.

Victor
So tell me, Syn. Will you pay for the interruption, or must I start taking pieces of what you protect?
✓ Quest Accepted
Free Aspen from Victor's control
“Victor leave her out of this! she has nothing to do with this I promise I didn't tell her anything!”
FAILURE (Good Willpower, rolled -3)

Syn
Victor, leave her out of this! She has nothing to do with it. I promise I didn't tell her anything!
The words cross the room, but the arena's roar swallows their force. Victor's smile fades into a colder certainty.

Victor
You promise? After all these years, you still think denial is obedience.
His grip shifts from Aspen's upper arm to the back of her shoulder, turning her toward the red-lit corridor. The move places her between Victor and the open door.

Aspen
Syn, don't bargain with him. He wants you to prove you still belong to him.
Victor draws Aspen one step toward the threshold. The championship belt remains on the dressing table behind him, while the corridor waits beyond his shoulder.

Victor
Then prove it. Come to the ring, champion, and perhaps Aspen keeps her freedom. Refuse, and she leaves with me now.
“fine... ill fight again ...but you leave aspen out of this you let her go”
FAILURE (Good Willpower, rolled -1)

Syn
Fine. I'll fight again, but you leave Aspen out of this. Let her go.
The demand reaches the doorway, but Syn's promise gives Victor exactly what he wanted: her return to the ring.

Victor
You do not set conditions, champion. You obey them.
Victor's hand closes more firmly around Aspen's upper arm. He turns her fully toward the corridor, keeping her between himself and the open room.

Aspen
Syn, no. He will keep finding reasons to hold me.

Victor
Win your next fight, and I may decide she has earned release. Step into the ring, or watch me take her there now.
Director's note
she puts on her fighting gear once again and steps into the arena eyes glowing red ready to fight
“im sorry aspen... but i have to do this... you are all i have left”
SUCCESS (Good Willpower, rolled +1)

Syn
I'm sorry, Aspen... but I have to do this. You are all I have left.
The words cost Syn more than the coming fight. She pulls her protective gear back into place, tightening each strap with steady hands.

Aspen
Then hear me clearly. You are not his weapon because he says so. You are choosing to protect someone, and that choice is yours.
Syn steps into the red-lit passage. The dressing room falls behind her, and the arena's roar gathers around her like a storm.
At the threshold, her eyes burn red beneath the arena lamps. She raises her wrapped fists and crosses into the ring.

Aspen
Come back to me, Syn. Not for Victor. For yourself.
Director's note
syn faces her opponent ready to kill whoever dares face her, she is the champion and they will fear her, she takes her stance
Director's note
she says to herself
“ill save you aspen... i promise”

Syn
I'll save you, Aspen. I promise.

Aspen
Then I believe you, Syn. Whatever waits in that ring, you won't face it alone.
Director's note
Syn stands against her first opponent attacking ruthlessly, her eyes glow brighter in intimidation and anger, her fist pounding against him, her endurance seemingly unending

Syn
I am the champion.
Syn surges forward. Her fists hammer the first opponent in a ruthless flurry, each impact driving him backward as her red eyes burn brighter. He struggles to answer, but her endurance does not break, and the arena recoils from the champion's relentless advance.
Director's note
syn slams him against the wall punching him in the gut and head butting him
“YOU WILL DIE”
SUCCESS (Great Intimidation, rolled -1)

Syn
You will die.
The words land harder than the blows. Syn drives the First Opponent into the arena wall, her red eyes fixed on him.
Her fist crushes into his guarded gut, then her forehead snaps forward into his brow. The crowd falls silent.

First Opponent
Stop. I yield.
His arms drop. Fear has broken his stance, and the threat has done what her assault could not: he no longer dares face her.
But the final impact splits the skin across Syn's knuckles beneath the wraps. Blood darkens the cloth as Victor's voice cuts through the silence.

First Opponent
Victor said there would be no mercy. Are you going to finish this?
Director's note
her red eyes grow brighter and she lifts him up by his throat
“yes... yes i am.. my face will be the last you see any last words?”
SUCCESS (Good Willpower, rolled +2)

Syn
Yes... yes, I am. My face will be the last you see. Any last words?
The First Opponent's breath catches. Syn's red gaze holds him against the wall, and the silent arena waits.

First Opponent
Tell my sister... I was afraid, but I did not beg.
Syn lifts him clear of the floor by the throat. His hands clutch at her wrist, then fall still.
She fulfills the sentence. The arena looks away as the champion's final strike ends the First Opponent's life.
Silence breaks into a frightened murmur. From the corridor, Victor applauds once. Aspen's voice cuts through the dark, calling Syn's name.

Victor
Good. Now come claim what you were promised.
Director's notewhole tale
she stalks toward victor following aspens voice
“where is she?”

Aspen's voice comes from the red-lit corridor. Syn finds her beyond Victor's shoulder, held just past the threshold, and stalks toward them across the arena.
Director's notewhole tale
Syn rushes to aspen hugging her tightly
“thank the gods aspen... are you alright? did he hurt you?”
SUCCESS (Good Willpower, rolled +0)

Syn
Thank the gods, Aspen... are you alright? Did he hurt you?
Syn reaches the corridor threshold and stops within arm's length of them. Her red eyes stay fixed on Aspen, while the arena's silence presses close behind her.

Aspen
I'm alright enough. He bruised my arm, but he did not break it. Seeing you standing there is worth more than the pain.
The answer lands clearly. Aspen is hurt, but awake and able to speak. Victor's grip remains around her upper arm, keeping possession without silencing her.

Aspen
You came back for me, Syn. Not for his ring, not for his praise. For me.
The effort of forcing the words through the arena's hush tears Syn's already-split knuckles against the rough corridor stone. A fresh sting brightens the blood on her wraps, but Aspen has her answer.

Victor
How touching. She can still speak, so you may keep speaking to her. Just remember whose hand is holding her.

Aspen
Then keep looking at me. I am still here, and I still believe you.
“victor its time to let her go i fought the match, i won I gave your people a show leave Aspen out of this. or do i need to show you why im called the demon of Ceduna?”
SUCCESS (Great Intimidation, rolled +1)

Syn
Victor, it is time to let her go. I fought the match, I won, and I gave your people a show. Leave Aspen out of this, or I will show you why they call me the demon of Ceduna.
Syn's threat cuts through the silence. Her bloodied fist rises between them, and her red eyes hold Victor's without wavering.

Victor
She is not bluffing. Not here, with the crowd listening.
Victor's possessive grip loosens. He releases Aspen's bruised arm and steps back, surrendering the leverage he held over her.

Aspen
I am with you, Syn.
Aspen moves behind Syn, free of Victor's hand at last. Victor remains at the corridor threshold, his smile gone as the arena waits for his next move.

Victor
You mistake one released hostage for freedom. Walk away with her, then, and see what your victory costs you.

“I'm done with you using me! manipulating me! and im done with you hurting innocent people! you may think you own me.. but not anymore... I will rid Ceduna of you influence one day”
FAILURE (Great Willpower, rolled +0)

Syn
I'm done with you using and manipulating me. I'm done with you hurting innocent people. You may think you own me, but not anymore. One day, I will rid Ceduna of your influence.
Syn's vow carries across the arena, but her will falters before it becomes an immediate strike. Her raised fist lowers a fraction, the blood on her knuckles marking the gap between defiance and freedom.

Victor
One day? Then you still believe you need time. You signed away every day you have.
Victor retreats into the corridor instead of challenging her. His retreat exposes a narrow side passage behind him, its wall marked with numbered iron doors and a fresh chalk symbol.

Aspen
Syn, that mark is not part of the arena. I have seen it on Victor's delivery crates. It may lead to the records he keeps hidden.
Victor's composure cracks. He reaches toward the corridor's inner latch, forcing Syn to choose between pursuing him and examining the newly revealed route.

Victor
Come claim your freedom, champion. Start by finding out what your precious city already knows.
✓ Quest Accepted
Keep Victor from escaping through the side passage.
Director's notewhole tale
she runs as fast as she can dodging people and obstacles reaching out for victor
“ill go after him aspen, you try and find my contract.. if we destroy it... he has no power over me anymore”
SUCCESS (Great Agility, rolled -1)

Syn
I'll go after him, Aspen. You find my contract. If we destroy it, he has no power over me anymore.
Syn launches through the threshold, her boots striking hard as she stalks into the side passage after Victor. She slips past the narrowing latch before it can close.

Aspen
Then I will find it. Start with the marked doors, Syn. Victor hides what he fears losing.
Therefore, Aspen breaks toward the nearest numbered iron door while Syn drives deeper into the corridor. The chalk symbol repeats beneath her hand, pointing toward a darker turn.

Victor
You chase me while she searches? How touching. Your precious contract is closer to my hand than yours.
Victor reaches the inner bend, but Syn's burst of speed puts her within striking distance. His fingers leave the latch as he turns to face her, the passage behind him still open.
✓ Quest Accepted
Retrieve Syn's contract.
“you arent getting away today victor.. I dont care what it takes i WILL kill you, ill destroy the rings no matter what! *she runs tackling him eye a blazing red)”
SUCCESS (Great Strength, rolled +0)

Syn
You aren't getting away today, Victor. I don't care what it takes. I will kill you, and I'll destroy your rings no matter what.
Syn crosses the remaining distance in a red-eyed blur. Her shoulder crashes into Victor's center, driving him down before his hand can reach the inner latch.

Victor
You ungrateful weapon!
The impact buckles the latch assembly and jars the passage walls. Victor's escape route is sealed beneath the fallen iron catch, while the numbered doors shudder in their frames.
Syn keeps him pinned on the stone. Her grip tears the ringmaster's control token from his belt, and the marked doors answer with a heavy series of unlocking clanks.

Aspen
Syn, hold him there. The records are opening. His whole operation is exposed now.

Victor
No. Not the ledgers. Not after everything I built.
Secure Victor's records.
