Adventure of Caelen Aris 1

The scatter accident hurls Caelen into a crowded border street on the Demon Continent. He lands among overturned stalls, while glowing fragments of broken teleportation sigils spin across the stones.

Demons in layered travel clothes flee between awnings and market carts. A fallen stone arch pins a small demon child beneath it, their frightened face visible through the dust.

Blue-white magic crawls in branching lines toward the trapped child. Heat prickles through Caelen's pale gloves as the nearest fragments flare.

A ring of armed residents closes around him. They are adult demons of varied builds, wearing patched leather and dark metal, their horns and wary eyes turned toward the spell.

Behind them, a market bell clatters in the wind. The crawling sigils brighten, and one broken rune snaps toward the arch with a sharp crack.

Caelen presses one gloved hand to the street. Earth heaves into narrow ridges, forming a branching channel beneath the crawling blue-white runes.

The spreading mana follows the raised stone away from the trapped child, its heat drawn into the safer path like water finding a ditch.

Caelen guides the last glowing fragments along the channel, then closes his fingers. The runes fold inward, their light sinking through his gloves and into him.

The branching glow vanishes from the stones. Dust settles around the arch, and the child, a demon girl with dusky red skin, short curled black horns, and a torn ochre tunic remains pinned but untouched, breathing in frightened little gasps.

Weapons lower by cautious inches. Several residents rush to the fallen arch, while the others keep watch on Caelen, their suspicion tempered by stunned relief.
