Create Your OC Multiverse: Cast Any Hero as an NPC in Your Story

The Tavern let you recruit player-made heroes as your own playable character. Now you can cast any Tavern hero - or your own other heroes - as NPCs in the adventures you're already playing. Your favorite OCs, together in one story.

When we opened the Tavern, you could recruit a player-made hero and play them as your own character. Now you can cast any listed hero as an NPC in a story you're already telling. Your hero stays the protagonist - the cast hero walks into their world with their face, their story, and their own agenda. Recruit built your roster. Casting builds your multiverse.

Cast straight from a Tavern hero's page

Found someone in the Tavern who belongs in your story? Next to the Recruit button there's a new arrow. Click it and you'll see two ways to bring a hero home: recruit them as your playable hero, as always, or cast them as an NPC into any of your existing heroes' stories.

Pick a story, and the hero joins that world on the spot. The storyteller knows who they are from that moment on, and when they walk into a scene, they arrive with the exact portrait their creator gave them.

Or cast from your Lore Book

It works from the other direction too. In your hero's Lore Book, the Characters section's Add New button now offers three choices: write a character from scratch, cast from the Tavern, or - and this one is brand new - cast one of your own other heroes.

That last option means the hero you built last month can show up in the story you're playing tonight. Your detective can walk into your knight's kingdom. No Tavern listing required - they're your characters, and now they can share a world.

Cross the genre streams (if you dare)

By default we show you heroes from your story's genre - a Fantasy world casts Fantasy folk, and everything stays coherent. But that's a suggestion, not a rule. Switch the filter to All genres and cast whoever you want, wherever you want.

Fair warning: heroes bring their look and their gear with them. Cast a chrome-armed netrunner into your medieval kingdom and the villagers will have questions. Some of the best stories start with those questions.

Same-genre casting is the default. Chaos is one filter away.

Assemble your OC multiverse

Every comic universe eventually has the crossover issue: the one where everyone shows up. Now yours can too. Recruit the heroes you love, cast them into each other's worlds, and let the storyteller figure out what happens when your whole roster ends up in the same tale.

And if you've listed a hero in the Tavern, there's a new stat waiting for you: alongside views and recruits, you'll see how many stories your hero has been cast in. Your OC isn't just being played - they're becoming a character in other people's worlds.

Casting is free, works with any published Tavern hero, and takes exactly two clicks. The Tavern is waiting - go build the crossover you've been thinking about.
