Featured Sword-and-Sorcery Tale: Bandit Queen’s Adventure
Scene 1: Chaos in the Slave Market
Location: The Slave Market of King Grakos
The sun beats down on the dust-choked arena of King Grakos. A massive, scaled beast tears through the market stalls, its roar silencing the frantic screams of the captive laborers. Amidst the chaos, a woman with iron-grey hair and ragged furs stands atop a crumbling stone pillar.
Krug: “Jump, elf queen, or be crushed beneath its hide.”
Bandit Queen (thinks): The beast is focused on the chains of the runaways. If I use the Bigginizer now, I could make a pebble beneath its foot expand into a boulder, tripping the titan. Or I could strike at the creature's flank with my sword.
The beast shifts its bulk, lunging toward the crowd of slaves huddled near the pillar. The beast's tail sweeps through the air, shattering a wooden cart into splinters. Krug leaps from his vantage point, drawing a serrated daggertusk, his eyes fixed on the beast's throat.
Bandit Queen (thinks): The beast is closing the gap. I have one chance to act before the slaves are trampled.
Bandit Queen: “Let us see if your armor protects you against the laws of perspective.”
The Bandit Queen levels the Bigginizer at the gargantuan beast. Her thumb presses the reverse toggle with a sharp click. A pulsing violet beam erupts from the device, bathing the monster in shimmering, distorted light.
The beast lets out a final, deafening roar that dwindles into a high-pitched, comical squeak. Muscles ripple and shrink, scales condense into mere pebbles, and the towering threat collapses in on itself. In a heartbeat, the terrifying titan is nothing more than a neon-green gecko scurrying desperately over the dusty arena floor.
Bandit Queen (thinks): That was far too easy. I should have considered the Bigginizer's potential for containment much sooner.
Krug skids to a halt, his daggertusk hovering in the air where the beast’s throat had been seconds ago. He stares, wide-eyed, at the tiny lizard darting between his boots.
Krug: “You... you shrunk the terror of Grakos. What kind of sorcery is this?”
